Lack of Luck

This week has been a rough one. I lent my lovely friend my sewing machine and upon its return I have not been able to get it to work. Ughhhh. That is such a totally awkward situation. According to the hubby you relinquish any right to get mad about something getting broken when you lend it out. I guess this is true. The stick part is that I can't simply head to Joannes and buy a new one. I would have worked on it further except I was SLAMMED with a horrible bug.

I am not going to sugar coat it, it has been awful. It hasn't helped that this week we have a large Congressional Delegation visitng the Embassy and I am the official photographer. I think I gave everyone a bit of a shock when I showed up in sweats this morning, but I quickly told them I would look more acceptable by the time the luncheon rolled around.
Yesterday after following around a 4 star Admiral (and getting sick infront of the motorcade drivers I didn't notice after running around a corner- certainly one of my new most embaressing moments) I headed home and CRASHED into bed.

I thought after 15 hours of sleep, four "get well soon" notes from Sawyer I would feel better but this is renltless. I am supposed to be out all day tomorrow with the delegation photographing their trips to various USAID sites, so my friends I know there is no way I am going to get a post in. But hopefully I am coherent enough that I can get the pattern for the coat up this afternoon.

  1. Oh wow, I hope you get well soon! It's no fun to be that sick. And what a shame about the sewing machine, that is a difficult situation. Hopefully you'll be able to get it to work, though. I'm sure your friend would have said something if it had stopped working on her, I know I would, so maybe it's just a fluke and it'll work when you try again.

  2. I will be praying for you Kelly! May the Lord give you the strength to not just get through, but enjoy this project and get the rest that you need, even when there don't seem to be enough hours to do so.

  10. Your husband is wise!!! I had a friend that changed my whole perspective on lending things out. Her simple rule was, don't lend out anything you would be upset that you didn't get back. My second thought is, I'm not sure how loosely you use the term friend, but if I borrowed something and not it wasn't working I would want to know. Once you start feeling better maybe you could let them know the situation and explain that maybe if they show you what they used it for or how they threaded it, maybe you could figure out what is wrong or what went wrong.

And I think you should just worry about getting better, not putting up a post. Hang in there and hopefully you get to feeling better!!!!

  11. Aw, Kelly, so sorry to hear you're ailing. I really hope you can bounce back soon. And I'm just sick for you about your sewing machine. I would just die if something happened to mine.

  12. Feel better!

If you have a mechanical machine maybe there is someone on the island who can help fix it. My husband has been able to fix my machine for me on several occasions.

  13. Kelly, I hope you feel better soon! Sounds like what we had. And I know this isn't what you want to hear but it lasted almost 2 weeks for the hubs and a whole week for me. The littles fortunately never got it.

If you have any questions about your machine let me know. I've gotten pretty good at solving crazy sewing machine problems since mine seems to have an agenda of his (yes his, he is too difficult to be a her) own.

    Lots of Love an Hugs,
    Jess

  14. Uuuggghhhh! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well! And that your sewing machine is broken--I'd feel like I was missing a part of me! I will say some prayers you're feeling better for all of your responsibilities! Hope you feel better soon!

  15. Oh no! I'm so sorry about all this. I do hope you feel better asap. What a bummer about the sewing machine. Your right, it's awkward but I would ask your friend if there were any problems with it will she was using it. That way she knows it's not working now but your not accusing her of breaking it.

  17. So sorry about your sewing machine!

But please, don't worry about a post until you feel better. I understand if you can't dodge your official photographer duties, but I like to think of us as your super cool friends... the kind that understand if you just need to lay low or cancel plans. The kind that feel relief if you admit to a little weakness and then take care of yourself.

So take care of you! We'll be here when you're feeling better.

  18. Give yourself some major slack girl! I think your readers would all agree that you are a human being, with real-life issues and demands, and that while we love, love, love your blog, a lot of times life is more critical living than blogging about it, (especially when you're just trying to survivive:( ). Take care of YOURSELF and get better.....and we'll be patiently waiting for whenever it is that you're able to post again. There....was that a pep-talk or what?!:)

  20. I hope you are feeling better. I don't leave comments as much as I should but I really wanted you to know that I've been reading your blog lately and I am just so inspired by your skill (your project runway sewing... especially the finale project, AMAZING!!!), your writing, your life, everything. Great work and it's been so fun reading your life adventures. We just started a job that we expect to be able to put in for an "international mobile" assignment in about 3 years. We have 3 kids and some of my friends have been skeptical that it is a good idea for us but I have been watching you and you make it feel like such a grand adventure (hard too I'm sure) that I feel brave and interested in giving it a try. Thanks again for keeping a fantastic blog, hope you feel better soon and that your machine miraculously corrects itself. I wish I was rich and could just send you a new one. :)
