PR&P: Retro Romper Rainbow

This week on Project Run and Play the theme was retro/vintage! I was so excited about this topic, then had a bit of a struggle, as discussed here ha! But thanks to all your comments I remember this is meant to be fun and a chance to be inspired! I decided to go with a project I had been wanting to do for a while, a vintage inspired romper. I love the halter romper from Wovenplay but didn't want it so bootie short :).
_MG_2688_3713Addieproof
When I went for fabric at the local fabric store I found the gingham in so many colors I had to make several and thankfully some of Evie's friends were willing to be my models!
raibowretrogroupproof
They were so much fun to photography and were just adorable!
_MG_2654_3679
I wanted a solid splash of color around their wastes so I made solid color belts to tie around the elastic waist (all about comfort when cuties are involved) :)
_MG_2681_3706proof
I made the fabric flowers that can be worn on the belt, or if they don't want a belt on the halter strap or in their hair :)
_MG_2693_3718
I made the girlies little headkerchiefs but forgot that Zahra is in fact tiny, super tiny so everything was a bit big on her cute little frame.
_MG_2706_3731proof
When I told the girls to take a break they were so cute and stood around talking about their boots
retrorainbow1
My wonderful friend sent the boots from Jakarta and thank heavens Zahra's feet were tiny enough to fit in the green ones
_MG_2712_3737proof
There was some adorable orange gingham but I couldn't find any boots that would go with it. But I had to throw some orange in there somehow.
_MG_2692_3717
I knew it would be raining and I while doing my research I read THIS article that talked about lined princess coats for them to wear.
_MG_2638_3663
Evie refused to wear her's, I mean threw a positive fit when I tried to keep it on her ha! I love how the colors look together. Which is why I am giving them away as a set!!! If you would like to be entered to win all you need to do is leave a comment! (if you don't want them but still want to leave a comment, I would love still love it) If you would like to make your own the pattern for size 4/5 is available HERE and the 6-12 month size is available HERE. I will be doing tutorial for the rompers on "Make It Monday". Now, if you have a moment and wouldn't mind hoping over to Project Run and Play to vote I would LOVE it! My fingers are crossed that I make it through because I have the best idea for next week :) Thanks for all you support!

  23. I love the boots and the bright colors. The world needs more gingham. It always makes me think of simpler times.

To thine own self be true. Old advice, but still sound. You make such lovely things. Even if you don't win, you've still won by making things you feel good about and that work for you and your sweet little ones (be they yours or borrowed ;) ).

    Shine on!

  24. I swear you can do no wrong haha. I would love to win one!

  30. Kelly, You rock! These are my absolute favorite this week! Everyone did a great job, but this was the most "current" interpretation of a retro look. ReplyDelete
  36. You don't need to doubt yourself! These are soooo cute! I think they best fit the objective too. They aren't too costumey so the little ones can still "run and play"

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love them! I would love to win them! And if not, I'm sure I'll be making a bunch. I can see this being a summer staple in my house and the pattern is the perfect size! Thanks! 45. Those girls look adorable! Super cute rompers! Would look great on my little monkey this summer. Love those boots too!

    ReplyDelete
  46. seems to me that the rompers were a too toddler-y, because those older girls look under-dressed to me, without their ponchos. i know its just my perspective and all, but i wanted to comment. I love what you've done with the gingham and solids, and love the little models and their sass, but the clothes themselves look better on your littlest model and i think thats because they are a little big on her(=fits better).

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love these rompers! So adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Love...as always...:) VOTE? Check. Leave comment? Check....You're super mom!!! Can't wait to see what you have in store for next week!

  111. Hello Kelly, These are the prettiest rompers I have ever seen! Today as soon as the shops are open (21 minutes to 9:00 am CET:)) I will go to the closost fabrics store and buy the textiles to try one for my 2 year-old. There are still months until summer (we have to sleep 91 times until 1st June not counting the afternoon naps with my daughter) but as I'm quite a beginner at sewing I think I will need this time to finish. Though I would be most happy to win one too... :))) Please keep creating all these wonderful clothes. Good luck and all the best! Ps. I'm Anita not Eugenia...
