Spinning A Yarn Necklace

I love chunky comfy looking necklaces. If I could I would TOTALLY knit myself some necklaces. Big chunky knit necklaces (do those exist?). Well I still can't figure out how to knit so I thought I would try my hand at making a fun necklace out of yarn and I LOVE how it turned out:

It is so terribly simply I know I will be making lots more of these. I have some gorgeous organic brown yarn that is super thick I have been trying to figure out what to do with ;)
What you need:
Left overs from a skein of wool in whatever color of colors you like
Glue Gun
Ribbon
Flowers etc for embellishment

I decided I wanted 3 loops on my necklace but you can do as many as you like. I think my next one will have 5 (I love odd numbers).  Each rope goes up in size. The first rope is a braid with 1 piece of yarn per section, the second has 2 pieces of yarn per section and the final has 3. I tape the top section so I would have some tension and this made braiding a lot easier.




I braided all the way to the end then tied a loop around with a piece of the yarn to keep it secure. When you are done braiding all 3 of your ropes they should resemble these:

I then laid it out in the way I wanted it to look. Then trimmed any excess so it laid nicely

I took the ribbon I had selected and used fray check on the ends

I plugged in the good ole hot glue gun (I found a few extra sticks today and was sooooo excited ha!) Once it was pipping hot I took one of the ribbons and put a nice glob of glue on the end. Then I wrapped it around all 3 ropes.

I wrapped and dolloped glue. I only went around twice.

On the last wrap I glued the ribbon at an angle so that it would hang straight

When you are done repeat on the opposite side so that you have two ribbon closures

Now the fun part, embellishing. I took an old hair flower that I never wear anymore, put a big 'ole dollop of glue in the middle and attached a black button, a gem and crystal button to jazz it up a bit

I wanted a little bit more so I added two little grey flowers that had some bling on them. Sorry this pic is so awful it was taken after dark haa!

I love how it looks, so wintery and warm looking :)
